Wallace Ray Kreutzman, 88, of Yakima, passed away at his home on August 17, 2014. He was born at home, January 7, 1926 in Ilwaco, WA to Karol Lewis and Clara Leona (Robertson) Kreutzman.
Wally moved to Yakima at an early age and was a lifelong resident of the Yakima Valley. He graduated from Yakima High School with the class of 1944 and enlisted in the Navy on June 14, 1944. He served in the Pacific during WWII aboard the U.S.S. Raymond DE 341 from 1944 to 1946.
Wally met his wife, Gloria LaRae Hanson, in high school. They were married December 8, 1946 and celebrated 65 years together. Gloria passed away one week before their 66th wedding anniversary. After living in Selah for 21 years, they moved back to Yakima in 1971.
Wally was an active Charter Member of Peace Lutheran Church in Selah for 53 years.
After working at Inland Motor Company for many years, Wally started his own successful business, Wally’s Auto Body Repair. In 1979, Wally started a second career as the first instructor of the Auto Body program at the Yakima Valley Vocational Skills Center. The success of the program was demonstrated by his students qualifying for state and regional VICA (Vocational Industrial Clubs of America, Inc.) Competitions. He retired in 1988 after 9 years of teaching.
After retiring, Wally and Gloria joined the Yakima Valley Trampers and the Escapees Evergreen Chapter RV Clubs. They spent many years traveling and camping with friends and wintering at Pair-A-Dice RV Park in Pahrump, Nevada.
Wally enjoyed many hobbies during his lifetime. He loved to slalom, trick and barefoot water ski and was a member of the Yakima Water Skiers Assn. and the American Water Ski Assn. After becoming interested in aviation, Wally earned his Private Pilot License and Instrument Rating. He enjoyed flying a Piper Cherokee and Cessna 172 and 182 on many cross country trips with family and friends. Through his interest in flying, he was a member of the Yakima Aero Club and the Washington Pilot’s Association. When flying the big ones was no longer an option, Wally began building and flying radio controlled airplanes. In later years, he enjoyed playing golf with Gloria, his brother, Karol and friends.
Wally is survived by his daughter, Cyndee Sundquist (husband Steve), two granddaughters, Stephanie Sundquist and Alicia Eirich (husband Bobby) and a great-granddaughter, Olyvia Mae Eirich. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria and his brother, Karol Edward Kreutzman.
Viewing will be Monday, August 25, 2014, noon until 6:00 p.m. at Brookside Funeral Home, 500 W. Prospect, Moxee. Graveside Services will be held Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Terrace Heights Memorial Park. Memorial Services will follow at 12:00 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, 91 Wernex Loop, Selah.
