SELAH, Wash.— Prompted by reports of an assault and kidnapping, a SWAT team surrounded a home outside Selah for about two hours Monday evening.

According to the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began about 3 p.m. when deputies received a report that two men, believed to be younger than 30, had been kidnapped and assaulted.

An investigation led authorities to a two-story home in the 200 block of Taylor Road, about a mile northwest of Selah. A SWAT team arrived at the home about 5 p.m.

Neighbors said officers used an armored vehicle to provide cover as they approached an outbuilding or shop that they cleared without incident.

A short time later, police could be heard banging on the front door of the home and shouting they had a search warrant.

About 7 p.m. officers entered the home and found it was empty, according to YSO Sgt. John Durand.

However, at some point during the investigation, one man was taken into custody. One of the men who had been reported kidnapped was being treated at a local hospital for injuries suffered in an assault, Durand said.

The other man was talking with investigators, he said.
