Starting Sunday, A Street between North First and North Front streets becomes a two-way street.

The change is being made in advance of the project to construct an underpass on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

That work is expected to start next month, but current weather conditions allow the striping that is necessary to create the two-way street.

Striping work should be complete by noon Sunday. A city news release states drivers should consider temporarily using alternate routes.

The change will make access to businesses easier, city officials say.

The underpass construction is scheduled to last about 18 months.

During that time, MLK Jr. Boulevard will be closed between First Street and First Avenue, and North Front Street will also be closed between A Street and the Lincoln Avenue underpass.
