TOPPENISH — A felony charge of vehicular assault has been filed against a motorist accused of running a stop sign into the path of a semi-truck.

Lynn Rene Johnson, 37, of White Swan was charged Wednesday in Yakima County Superior Court, where she faces arraignment Dec. 24.

Investigators said Johnson ran a stop sign Dec. 6 at the intersection of U.S. Highway 97 and Jensen Road, south of Toppenish.

A passenger in Johnson’s car, 32-year-old Samantha Heemsah, was seriously injured when a semi-truck broadsided the car on the passenger side, according to state troopers.

The charge against Johnson alleges she was either intoxicated or was driving recklessly or unsafely. Troopers reported she appeared to be intoxicated.

She is free on her own recognizance pending trial.
