For 100 hours, David McKinney will endure the cold and sleep in a box to encourage donations for those in need.

It’s part of the annual Operation T.I.N.C.U.P, which stands for Those In Need, Can You Pitch In?

McKinney kicked off his fundraising effort with a news conference at 9 a.m. Thursday and will stay outside Wray’s Family IGA at 56th and Summitview avenues until 1:04 p.m. Monday.

He’s hoping to beat last year’s collection of $11,000 cash and 3.5 tons of food and other items such as new or gently used toys, clothing and blankets.
