MOXEE — A 37-year old Mattawa motorist and his passenger, a 9-year-old boy, were hospitalized Tuesday morning when a hop truck failed to yield and struck their vehicle, according to the Washington State Patrol.

About 7:15 a.m., Ricardo Barragan, 34, of Yakima was driving a 2000 International hop truck south on Walters Road when he attempted to turn left onto State Route 24 and struck Jose A. Reyes, who was driving an eastbound 2001 Kia, according to a Washington State Patrol news release. It’s not clear which hospital the pair were taken to.

Barragan was cited for failure to yield the right-of-way, the release said. Although he stopped at the intersection, he failed to yield to Reyes when he attempted to turn left onto SR 24, the release said.
