YAKIMA — Some shorter days are coming to the Yakima Social Security office.

Starting Nov. 19, the office at 801 Fruitvale Blvd. will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, leaving the day shorter by 30 minutes, according to a news release from the agency’s regional headquarters in Seattle. Starting Jan. 2, the office will close at noon Wednesdays.

Employees will continue to work their full hours, but the reduction in time open to the public will allow them to complete face-to-face interviews and process claims without overtime, the release said.

Reduced funding from Congress prompted the changes, the release said.

In addition, the office will remain closed Nov. 23, the day after Thanksgiving.
