There was good news for lawmakers from the Yakima and Kittitas valleys Thursday when the state House Republicans announced their committee assignments.

Rep. Bruce Chandler, R-Granger, will be the ranking member of the Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee, while fellow 15th District Rep. David Taylor, R-Moxee, will hold the same role on the Local Government Committee.

Rep. Matt Manweller, R-Ellensburg, will be the ranking Republican on the Labor and Workforce Development Committee. In a news release, Manweller said it is rare for a freshman lawmaker to be appointed a ranking member of a committee.

“Given the challenges our economy faces right now, I plan to work on policies that bring jobs back to Washington,” Manweller said in the news release.

Rep. Judy Warnick, R-Moses Lake, was named ranking member of the Capital Budget Committee.

Rep. Norm Johnson, R-Yakima, was named assistant ranking member of the Community Development, Housing and Tribal Affairs Committee. Rep. Charles Ross, R-Naches, was named assistant ranking member of the Appropriations Committee, as was Chandler.
