CHINOOK PASS, Wash. — A specialized rescue crew from the Yakima and Nile fire departments was dispatched to the scene of a fatal fall Tuesday evening.
Nile fire Chief Steve Smith confirmed dispatch reports that a 17-year-old had fallen 200 feet near the summit of Chinook Pass, 66 miles west of Yakima on State Route 410. He didn’t know if the teen was a boy or a girl.
The mission has since been reclassified a recovery rather than a rescue, meaning the fall was fatal. The circumstances of the fall were unknown.
