YAKIMA, Wash. — A 20-year-old Toppenish man has been arrested in connection with a robbery attempt Sunday at the White Swan Trading Post.

Yakima County sheriff’s deputies said a man wearing a mask tried to rob the store about 3 p.m., brandishing a pistol and demanding cash from the open register.

According to an arrest affidavit, a clerk closed the register, deactivating it, leaving the would-be robber to put the pistol in his waistband and then pace back and forth before leaving in frustration.

A Yakama Nation police officer investigated the case, leading to a witness who identified the suspect.

Deputies said both clerks at the store subsequently confirmed the suspect as the robber. The incident was also captured on store surveillance video.

The pistol was not recovered.
