NACHES, Wash. — Firefighters report only minimal growth on the the Conrad Lake Fire as they work to contain the 980-acre blaze in the Goat Rocks Wilderness.

Containment is at 16 percent, up slightly from the weekend, according to an update issued this morning.

The fire continues to creep south toward a road designated as a control point.

About 550 personnel are assigned to the fire. Some crews will be released today as they reach the end of their authorized work rotations, with more expected to leave later in the week.

New fires in the region may also cause some resources, such as helicopters, to be reassigned.

The weather remains favorable, officials say.

The fire started Aug. 9 due to lightning. It is burning eight miles south of Rimrock Lake and 35 miles southwest of Naches.
