SELAH, Wash. — The city of Selah is taking applications for a vacant City Council position after Kevin Jorgensen announced his resignation earlier this month.

Jorgensen, 50, said he resigned after he and his wife decided to sell their home in Selah to live off State Route 410 outside of Naches. Jorgensen, who is director of manufacturing at Michelsen Packaging Co. in downtown Yakima, said he had expected to finish his term before the opportunity to move arose.

“Serving Selah these five years has been a great experience,” Jorgensen said.

His resignation is effective Dec. 31, but the City Council has no regularly scheduled meetings before then. City Administrator David Kelly said the city hopes to finish the application process by Jan. 8.

The remaining members of the City Council will choose the new council member, who would have to seek election in November 2013. The city only requires that applicants be residents of Selah who are registered to vote.

City Council members are compensated $325 monthly in addition to a vision insurance plan. Applications can be downloaded at www.ci.selah.us or picked up at City Hall, 115 W. Naches Ave.
