YAKIMA, Wash. — In a recent In Basket column, I wrote that John Cooper, CEO of Yakima Valley Tourism, received the Tourism Concierge Award during the Washington State Wine Awards last month.
But a quick glance at the news release about the event shows there were some other local entities recognized. Yakima Valley Tourism and Valley Cafe in Ellensburg both received the Grand Award, which recognizes restaurants and organizations that provide ongoing promotion and education of Washington wine through wine lists or other means.
Congrats to the local winners.
Meanwhile, Andy Perdue has a piece in Great Northwest Wine on how chardonnay has become the No. 1 wine grape to be grown in the state. The piece, however, notes that might change in the future with a greater amount of cabernet sauvignon and merlot grapes being planted.
Are you a chardonnay drinker? Or do you prefer other varieties? Let me know in the comments.
