YAKIMA, Wash. — My prediction on North Town Coffeehouse’s new location turned out to be correct: The downtown location is moving to the former Burlington Northern Santa Fe train depot in downtown Yakima.
Dave Tompkins confirmed the coffee house was heading to the train depot after I inquired about a building permit the city of Yakima issued for construction of a coffee bar at the depot on 32 N. Front St., which has been vacant since The Depot Restaurant and Lounge closed nearly three years ago.
“I think it’s the premier historical building in Yakima,” he said.
And with twice the space of his current location, Tompkins said he has other plans for the new location, though he remain mum on specific details.
Tompkins said the timing for relocating to the new location would depend on construction and how quickly he can provide official notification to the owner of the property at its current location.
However, he said an opening will likely happen “sooner than later.”
Tompkins earlier confirmed that he was looking around for a new location for the downtown shop, which is currently located on the ground floor of the Cascade Apartments at 28 N. First St.
North Town’s lease there expired in July and Tompkins said he was unable to agree on new terms with Stewart.
