YAKIMA, Wash. — Once in a while, I get restaurant news from my colleagues.

In this case, I learned from my colleague Pat Muir that there was a new Mexican restaurant in the former Sloppy Slaw Burgers and Ribs space at 3207 W. Nob Hill Blvd.

The restaurant is called Esperanza’s. Pat described it as “only slightly more expensive than a taco truck” and reported that “you can go inside and sit down.”

Sloppy Slaw Burgers and Ribs closed at the end of December due to the high cost of converting the former home into a restaurant and not getting the necessary business to cover those costs.

Esperanza’s is actually just one of several Mexican restaurants that opened recently:

Taqueria El Rinconsito, a Federal Way-based Mexican fast-food chain opened its first Yakima location at 1101 S. Third Ave. and is working on a second location at the former Wendy’s space at 1001 N. First St.

• Tamales Express and More recently opened at 315 W. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

What do you think of this slew of new Mexican restaurants? Tell me in the comments.
