White Pass Ski Area will open Friday with about 80 percent of the resort’s terrain available to skiers, resort owners said Wednesday.
There were 47 inches of snow at the ski area’s 6,550-foot elevation summit as of Wednesday morning, with 20 inches at the base.
Three inches of snow fell overnight and more snow is forecast before the first chairlift starts up Friday, according to the ski area.
While not every run will be open, the percentage of open runs is higher than normal for opening day.
The ski area typically opens with about 50 percent to 75 percent of the mountain open, White Pass marketing director Kathleen Goyette said last week.
Goyette noted that only once in her 24 years at White Pass has it opened with all of its terrain skiable.
White Pass Ski Area is immediately south of U.S. Highway 12, about 53 miles west of Yakima.
