YAKIMA, Wash. — Fire caused heavy damage to a fourplex housing unit in north-central Yakima Friday night, but no injuries were reported.
Yakima firefighters were called to 1114 Garfield Ave. about 8:30 p.m. after receiving a report that two of the units were on fire. Firefighters knocked down the flames and entered the building to search the units, finding no one inside, said shift commander Ted Vander Houwen.
No cause was immediately apparent, he said.
Vander Houwen said initial reports were that all four units were occupied when the fire started.
He noted that a lot of people were in the street watching the fire, making it difficult for fire trucks to access the scene.
