GRANDVIEW – Two dogs died of smoke inhalation and a firefighter suffered a minor ankle injury during a house fire west of Grandview on Sunday evening.

About half the home at 1420 N. Forsell Road was heavily damaged, with losses estimated at $150,000, according to a news release from Yakima County Fire District 5.

The fire was reported shortly after 6 p.m. after family members arrived home to find the house full of smoke and fire burning in a back room, according to firefighters.

Twenty-one firefighters from three fire district stations and the city of Grandview responded to the blaze. Efforts to fight the fire from the inside of the home were complicated when the heavy ceramic tile roof threatened to collapse, firefighters said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
