GOLDENDALE, Wash. — A Chiloquin, Ore., driver and her 5-year-old passenger were injured in a crash with a semi truck on U.S. Highway 97 north of Goldendale on Monday afternoon, the Washington State Patrol reported.

Kayla Bettles, 25, and an unidentified girl were taken to Kittitas Valley Hospital in Goldendale. An update on their condition was not available.

The semi driver — Harvey G. Bowser, 37, of Tolleson, Ariz. — was not hurt.

Troopers said Bettles was southbound about 2:20 p.m., 21 miles north of Goldendale, at the same time the semi was northbound. Both vehicles were rounding the same curve, and Bettles’ Honda passenger car drifted over the centerline and clipped the rear tires of the semi trailer. The Honda spun into guardrail and came to rest facing south in the northbound lane.

Bettles was given a ticket for failing to stay to the right of center and for not having insurance, troopers said.

All three occupants were using seat belts or other legal restraints. Intoxicants were not suspected, authorities said.
