Mark McLaughlin, Central Washington’s leading scorer this past season, has been named to the Daktronics West Region all-star second team.
A 6-foot-6 junior guard, McLaughlin averaged 22.4 points a game, tops in the GNAC and second all-time in Central history to the 26.4 scored by Selah’s Ryan Pepper during the 1994-95 season.
McLaughlin also averaged 5.7 rebounds a game, collected a team-high 37 steals and set a Central single-season record by making 183 free throws (he shot 81.3 percent from the line).
Guard John Allen of defending NCAA Division II national champion Western Washington was named the region’s player of the year, and teammate Paul Jones joined Allen on the all-star first team.
In other Central news, junior Becki Duhamel has won the GNAC’s female newcomer of the year for the recently concluded indoor track season.
A transfer from Lehigh, Duhamel swept the weight throw (54 feet, 2 inches) and shot put (45-3 1/4) titles in the conference meet. Her weight throw was a meet record.
Earlier, Duhamel was named West Region Female Field Athlete of the Year by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
