Yakima Valley Community College’s women and men will be televised live on SWX tonight for their East Region games at Spokane.

Women are scheduled to start at 6 p.m. with the men to follow at 8. The doubleheader will conclude the Yaks’ regular season. Both have already secured berths in the NWAACC tournament March 2-5 in Kennewick.

If YVCC’s men win, they will be the region’s No. 2 team in the tournament, and will be third if they lose. Yakima Valley’s women will be No. 3 if they win and No. 4 if they lose.

In the NCAA Division II ranks, Western Washington’s men and women have both been ranked No. 1 in the first West Region polls released Wednesday.

WWU’s men are 24-0, have won 30 consecutive games dating back to last season and are ranked second nationally. The Vikings women, featuring Mabton’s Trishi Williams as a starter, are 19-3 and are ranked eighth in the nation.

Usually, the top-ranked teams host the regional tournaments starting March 15, and the poll helps determine which five teams get at-large berths to join champions from the GNAC, PacWest and CCAA (California Collegiate Athletic Association).

In the men’s rankings, Western is followed in order by Cal Poly Pomona, Seattle Pacific, Dixie State, Grand Canyon, Cal State San Bernardino and Alaska Anchorage.

The women’s poll follows WWU with Chico State, Simon Fraser, Cal State Monterey Bay, Grand Canyon, UC San Diego, Northwest Nazarene and Montana State Billings.
