I got the most exciting email ever today. It was from the Girl Scouts of Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho, announcing that Feb. 8 is National Girl Scout Cookie Day.

That means that if you burned through your stash of Thin Mints and Samoas months ago, the girls will be out across the state beginning Feb. 8 taking your orders for this year’s cookies. This year you can pick up boxes of Thin Mints, Samoas, Trefoils, Do-si-does, Tagalong and Savannah Smiles for only $4 a box. Preorders run through Feb. 23 and deliveries begin March 22. That’s always the toughest part: The lag time between ordering and actually getting the cookie. No instant gratification here. Back in my scouting days, I would always have customers who couldn’t remember that they’d ordered cookies with me in the first place, but they were glad to see me coming with my blue wagon full of joy anyway.

I’m a little disapointed that my first born child is a boy, as that means we’ll have to wait until Child 2 to try to get a girl and future Girl Scout cookie sales champ. Boy Scouts don’t sell anything cool.

You’ll be able to find your favorite cookies in booths outside area stores between March 22 and April 14. For more info about scouting, cookie flavors and nutrition info (seriously, who wants to know?) head over to the Girl Scout website.
