Not to be outdone by Crystal Mountain’s Monday morning announcement of its Wednesday opening, Stevens Pass has jumped to the head of Washington’s ski-resort opening line.
Stevens Pass, located on Highway 2 west of Leavenworth and east of Monroe, announced Monday afternoon that it would open for four hours on Tuesday afternoon, making it the state’s first ski area to open for the 2012-13 ski and snowboard season.
Stevens Pass has received more than 24 inches of snow over the past 24 hours, and expects to have “up to three” lifts open from noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday. Lift passes will be $20 for that limited opening day, while visitors showing a season’s pass at any other Washington resort can ski for free.
The ski area has a 28-to-31 inch base.
