Naim Ladd, a 5-foot-9 point guard who starred for four seasons at state power Rainier Beach High School, has signed to continue his career at Central Washington.
A university release confirmed the addition to coach Greg Sparling’s recruiting class, which now numbers seven players including three high school seniors. Ladd will redshirt next season, the release said.
“Naim is a proven winner,” Sparling said, alluding to the three Class 3A state championships and 82-8 overall record compiled by the Vikings with Ladd as their point guard. “He comes from a winning tradition at Rainier Beach and we are looking for players like Naim who know what it takes to win and who has competed against some of the nation’s best athletes.”
Ladd averaged 12 points, four rebounds and 3.8 assists last season as Rainier Beach recorded a 30-1 record, won the school’s third straight Class 3A state title and earned mention by some observers as being among the best high school teams in state history.
At Central, Ladd will be tutored by assistant coach Drew Harris, a former Eisenhower standout point guard who played his final collegiate season at CWU in 2010-11 and helped the Wildcats to a 26-4 record along with GNAC regular-season and tournament championships.
