Central Washington defensive tackle Austin Schnizler and punter Matt Burke have earned defensive and special teams player of the week awards, respectively, from the GNAC.

Schnizler, a 6-foot-3, 266-pound senior, was lauded for making five tackles in the Wildcats’ 54-14 rout at Simon Fraser last Saturday. Four of Schnizler’s tackles were for lost yardage with three being sacks and the other resulting in a safety.

Burke, also a senior, averaged 43.3 yards on three punts, none of which allowed the Clan a return. He also threw a 54-yard touchdown pass to Deionte Gordon on a fake punt that gave CWU a 34-14 second-quarter lead.

The Wildcats, 5-1 in conference play and 5-2 overall, host Azusa Pacific (5-1, 5-2) in a Saturday showdown for the conference lead.
