The ownership group behind Yakima’s new West Coast League baseball franchise announced Friday that a website has been launched to enable fans to participate in a contest to name the team.

Pacific Baseball Ventures, which also owns and operates the WCL’s Walla Walla Sweets, has invited Yakima area fans to produce a nickname for the team, which will begin competition next season, as well as provide input regarding other aspects of the club.

“We are excited to get started in the market,” PBV vice president Zachary Fraser said in a news release. “We want feedback and input from the very fans that are proud to call the Yakima Valley their home. This will help us develop a brand that is something that the whole community can rally around.”

Fraser, a member of the ownership group, is also the Sweets’ general manager.
