ELLENSBURG, Wash. — I don’t, as a rule, like “cute,” but even I cannot resist the appeal of hordes of dachshunds.

So I’m making Dachshunds on Parade, the annual Ellensburg celebration of wiener dogs, the On Blog Pick of the Week. The event, now in its 11th year (that’s 77 in dog years), brings hundreds of the little canine low-riders to town for a celebration of all things dachshund. There’s a parade, of course, but there’s much more: a breakfast with dogs, dog races, even a costume contest, in which dachshunds are dressed in hilarious little outfits.

And look, sure, fine, OK, I know that sounds intolerably cutesy, like something your dear old Grammy would be into, while you, Mr. Cool Guy, sit back with an air of detached cool and poke fun. But, come on, man, they wear little hats and everything.

Things get under way at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the corner of Fourth Avenue and Main Street in downtown Ellensburg. For information, visit www.dachshundsonparade.com or call 509-925-3137.
