Central Washington associate men’s basketball coach G.E. Coleman will be named head coach at Hawaii-Hilo later this week, according to a report Wednesday in the Honolulu Star-Advertiser.

Coleman, 31, has been associate head coach with CWU’s Greg Sparling the past six seasons, and Sparling confirmed late Wednesday night that the deal was considered done with the sides working to finalize a contract.

Coleman previously had been a student assistant for Sparling and had spent two years assisting Mike Burns at Eastern Washington.

He returned to Central in 2007 and soon afterward was named associate head coach.
