First place will be at stake Wednesday when Yakima Valley and Treasure Valley square off for an East Region baseball doubleheader at Parker Field.
First pitch is scheduled for noon.
The Chukars, ranked third in the most recent NWAACC poll, are 10-2 in the East and 23-5 overall. Seventh-ranked YVCC is 9-3 and 19-9.
Coach Marcus McKimmy’s Yaks will host Walla Walla on Saturday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader that will end the first half of region play.
Also on the local baseball front, Central Washington third baseman Marc Garza has been named the co-GNAC Red Lion Player of the Week.
The senior from Othello was 13 for 18 as Central went 6-2. He drove in seven runs, scored six handled 17 chances at the hot corner without committing an error.
Garza shared the honor with Northwest Nazarene catcher Scott David, and follows CWU teammates Ethan Sterkel, Joe Castro, Skye Adam, Stuart Fewel, Tyler Roberts and Kyle Sani (twice) as conference honorees.
Central, 14-6 in the GNAC and 23-15 overall, is second in the standings behind Western Oregon.
