Forget chocolate, gentlemen.
Apples are the new Valentine’s sweet treat, according to the marketers of the Pink Lady.
The pitchmen behind the trademarked brand of apple have partnered with Bob’s Red Mill Natural Foods in Milwaukie, Ore., to develop a recipe for a Pink Lady tarte tatin, an upside down tart, according to a news release from Pink Lady America of Yakima.
Bob’s Red Mill makes a pie crust mix that is free of gluten and dairy products.
For several years, Pink Lady America has pitched its apples as a gift of romance. Following suit, Red Mill has featured the tarte tatin as today’s Valentine’s Day recipe on its website.
“Happy Valentine’s Day,” it reads. “We can’t think of a better way to celebrate than with this easy, gluten-free apple tarte tatin made with beautiful Pink Lady apples.”
Don’t get me wrong. I like Pink Lady apples and this dessert sounds delicious.
But when I run out for that last-minute gift today, I feel safer sticking with balloons, flowers or wine.
And definitely chocolate.
