I love advertisements that can make me snort-laugh. This one from Little Debbie did just that. It is brilliant. Plus, it came with a coupon - 75 cents off a box of snack cakes. So on a recent Safeway run, I picked up some Cloud Cakes for my husband to get an official ruling on whether Twinkie fans really do have another option.
The verdict: Yes, yes they do.
Individually wrapped instead of in a two-pack, Cloud Cakes are everything a Twinkie used to be: Yellow, and filled with goo. I was never a fan, which is why I relied on my spouse for this review.
The final assessment: It looks like a Twinkie, it smells like a Twinkie, it “feels” (seriously, that’s what he said...) like a Twinkie, and it tastes like a Twinkie.
Except it’s a Cloud Cake.
Which is good news for you Twinkie fans. But it spins some questions: At this year’s fair, will we see “Deep-Fried Cloud Cakes”? Or perhaps they’ll just generic-it-up and go with “Deep-Fried Spongecakes.”
It just doesn’t have the same ring to it.
Or maybe we’ll just decide copyrights be darned and call them Twinkies anyway. I expect to do some hard reporting on this important issue come September.
